Police said they had not yet confirmed that the body is that of Sherin Mathews, who has been missing since Oct. 7. Officers had blocked off an area near East Spring Valley and South Bowser roads, east of Central Expressway. The location is less than a mile from the girl's home. Police indicated they have no reason to believe the body of a different child had been found, but they are still awaiting positive identification. The city received a score of 6 out of a possible 100 points on the Human Rights Campaign's Municipal Equality Index for a second year in a row. The nationwide survey ranks cities based on how much local laws and policies foster greater acceptance of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities.
