Authorities swarmed the Strip near the Route 91 Harvest Festival before reporting they had killed a gunman on the 32nd floor of a hotel across from the outdoor concert. The Clark County sheriff called the attacker a "lone wolf," but he said the suspect's roommate, Marilou Danley, is being sought as a person of interest. Police were also looking for two vehicles linked to the suspect. Concert-goers reported seeing muzzle flashes from the upper floors of the Mandalay Bay hotel-casino across Las Vegas Boulevard from the country music festival. The sound of automatic gunfire could be heard, and officers carrying assault rifles ran into the Mandalay. But four games deep into the schedule, this much is clear: The [Cowboys don't resemble the team that took the NFL by storm one short year ago](. For a few fleeting moments in the first half Sunday afternoon, they did. The Cowboys blueprint for success — run the ball, control the clock and avoid turnovers — was in full display. It was merely a tease. Quarterback Dak Prescott lost his accuracy, Ezekiel Elliott lost his touches and the Cowboys were unable to subdue the surging Los Angeles Rams. The 35-30 loss dropped the Cowboys to 2-2. Dallas didn't suffer its second loss until Dec. 11 in 2016. The Tommie Allen Recreation Center in southeast Oak Cliff offered a place to stay for about 50 people a day beginning Aug. 26. In early September, the evacuees were moved to the mega shelter at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center.  But as the number of guests there started to wane, those who remained — about 200 — were relocated to Tommie Allen and the mega shelter closed Sept. 20. Now, those who were staying at Tommie Allen have either gone home, found an apartment or are staying in local hotels, the city said. And as the shelter shut its doors, the city held an appreciation picnic at White Rock Lake for  volunteers who helped staff the various facilities. In these volatile times, when we hold grudges over political labels, old statues and what other people do during the national anthem, [this year's butter sculpture at the State Fair of Texas]( is showing us how alike we really are. Our common ground is confusion. Who the heck are the figures in "Mount Muchmore"? The four enigmatic people carved into a half-ton of butter have sparked curiosity, frustration and conversation — well, marital squabbling in some cases. A Texas riff on the presidential faces on Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, the butter sculpture by artist Ken Robison shows an astronaut wearing a space helmet, a man with a hard hat, a man with a fedora-like hat chewing on wheat and a man with a coonskin cap.
