In today's newsletter: - Two people were [killed Sunday evening in a shooting]( in the parking lot of the Walmart in South Anchorage that forced the store to evacuate and close for the rest of the day. - Alaska's attorney general issued new guidance on the discussion of gender in public schools and access to books related to sexuality in libraries, [drawing criticism from public education advocates]( who said the guidance targets gender non-conforming Alaskans. - A lawsuit filed on behalf of eight Mat-Su students contends the borough [school district violated their constitutional rights]( when officials removed 56 books from library shelves early this year. Earlier this month, as most of Alaska joined the cryosphere and became snow-covered, one area again stood out as one of the snowiest places on the planet. An area on the Richardson Highway near Thompson Pass received 6 feet of snow over the course of one day.
