In today's newsletter: - Anchorage is still recovering from two storms that blanketed the city in more than 3 feet of snow, but more wintry weather in the forecast brings the potential for more chaos. - After the snowstorms closed Anchorage schools for an unprecedented fourth day in a row, school district officials must decide how to adjust the calendar going forward. - Communities along the Arctic coastline have reported hundreds of starving seabirds over the past six years that usually eat plankton, krill or fish, but appear to have had difficulty finding sufficient food. In the 1950s, a network of civilian sleeper agents ran across Alaska, unbeknownst to the public. This was Operation Washtub, a program developed amid Cold War fears of Soviet aggression.
