A long cold spell in Anchorage is pushing the cityâs emergency shelter for unhoused people to the edge, with the number of Sullivan Arena shelter guests exceeding official capacity by more than 100 people this week. Inside the shelter Wednesday, cots were spread across the main space while some guests slept on thin blue mats laid on concrete floors, with people's belongings and trash cluttering narrow corridors.
