In a procedural twist, members of the Assembly refused to put Mayor Dave Bronsonâs large-scale shelter proposal on the agenda for a public hearing at their next meeting, effectively rendering the request dead. A scaled-down counterproposal sponsored by two Assembly members was also killed. At the moment, it's unclear how the city will move forward in sheltering its homeless population as it prepares to stand down the Sullivan Arena mass shelter by the end of September. Alt-rock band Foo Fighters will play the Denaâina Center in Anchorage on Aug. 17 and 19 and the Carlson Center in Fairbanks on Aug. 21, organizers announced Wednesday. The Munson Creek Fire was started by lightning on June 18 and has since grown to 38,245 acres, but cooler temperatures, higher humidity and potential rain could help subdue the fire, the forestry division says. The mother of Anesha âDuffyâ Murnane had filed a presumptive death petition, a process under Alaska law to determine that someone has died even though a body has not been located. Homer police say they consider the case involving Murnane â whom a jury determined died by homicide â to be active and under investigation. Hilltop Ski Areaâs bike park, which is set to open on Aug. 7, will be home to the first lift-assisted bike trails in the Anchorage Bowl.
