You can have the greatest written Constitution in the world

[Adam Schiff for Senate]( {NAME}, After our first week of the general election for California’s U.S. Senate seat, I wanted to share some quick thoughts with you: You can have the best-written Constitution in the world, and I believe we do. You can have the best laws to constrain the worst impulses of those in power, and maybe we do. But if our elected officials don’t give meaning to their oaths of office, then none of it is enough to protect our democracy. In the past week, Mitch McConnell — who has called Donald Trump “practically and morally responsible” for the violent insurrection on the Capitol on January 6th — endorsed Trump’s campaign. Republican Senators have rolled out the red carpet for a second Trump administration, more extreme than the last. The most consequential fights for the future of our democracy — abolishing the filibuster, reforming the Supreme Court, passing legislation to enshrine Roe v. Wade as the law of the land, and expanding voting rights — will depend on keeping our Senate majority. And with Manchin and Sinema’s retirements, the two obstacles to abolishing the filibuster to achieve those goals no longer block our path. If we can defend the Senate majority, flip the handful of seats necessary to retake the House majority, and re-elect President Biden and Vice President Harris, we could have this legislation passed by this time next year. That is the goal I am laser-focused on working toward — but I cannot do it alone.
