That’s what labor does for people

[Adam Schiff for Senate]( Team — I had the opportunity to speak with a retired longshoreman a few months back, and I just had to share his story. I asked him how he was doing in his retirement. And he said, “When I was a longshoreman, I didn’t go to the doctor unless I was bleeding…Now that I’m retired, I go all the damn time. And this union gave me health care.” That’s what labor does for people. It gives them a chance to be paid fairly and retire with dignity. Day after day on the campaign trail, I hear incredible stories from hard-working people who are concerned about whether their pay and benefits will be enough to support themselves and their families. The reality is that our economy is not working for far too many people. And the problem isn’t that people aren’t working. It’s that people are working and still can’t make enough to get by. That’s why this longshoreman’s story has stuck with me. From the start of my career, I’ve stood shoulder to shoulder with the labor movement. I’m going to keep fighting to protect workers, like the retired longshoreman I met on the campaign trail.
