Here’s why this is concerning: With the lines of my new district just redrawn, I have to introduce myself to tens of thousands of new voters in the added portions of my district before the California Jungle Primary this June. I’ll be on the ballot right alongside this GOP opponent and seven other candidates from all different parties (they have come out of the woodwork to run against me this cycle), and without the proper resources, new voters could be learning about me from the likes of Michael Flynn and Roger Stone. You will remember that Donald Trump’s National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn, lied about conversations he had with the Russian ambassador to the United States over their interference in our election, and then pled guilty to those lies. Bill Barr then intervened in Flynn’s case and the Justice Department dropped the matter. That’s right, Barr’s DOJ dropped the case after Flynn pled guilty... twice. In the years since Flynn’s disgraceful 22-day stint as Trump’s National Security Advisor, he has made the rounds on the far right and become a leader of the QAnon cohort of conspiracy theorists, and his ties to Russia (even joining Putin for a celebratory dinner of Russia’s propaganda station, RT) and other bad-faith actors are well documented. And yet Flynn has called me a traitor. According to public reports, when Trump contested the results of the 2020 election, Flynn shared a recommendation that Trump suspend the Constitution, silence the press, and hold a new election under the military’s authority. These are the kinds of people who my leading GOP opponent is proud to be supported by. There is no one in Congress that Michael Flynn, Roger Stone, and Donald Trump would more like to defeat than me. My last Trumpist opponent raised over $4 million to lie, smear, defame, and defeat me and there are more dirty tricks on the way with Stone and Flynn involved in my race.
