{NAME} — Texas House Democrats showed real courage this week. Under threat of arrest, they left Texas to deny the Republican majority a quorum and stop the passage of discriminatory voter suppression legislation. They deserve our support — and our action. The Texas House Democrats are urging the Senate to take action — as am I. Across the country, Republican legislatures are rushing to pass discriminatory voter suppression bills. With the Supreme Court continuing to gut the Voting Rights Act, 17 states have already passed laws this year that restrict ballot access. It’s only a matter of time before Texas becomes the 18th. So today, I have an important ask: Texas Democrats are directly threatened by the legislature’s voter suppression bill, which Republican Gov. Greg Abbott has vowed to sign into law. They deserve our support right now: [Will you split a donation of $10, $25 or whatever you can afford between the Texas Democratic Party and our campaign? We must support Democrats at every level who are defending the right to vote, and pressure the Senate to abolish the filibuster and pass federal voter protection laws without delay.]( If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your split donation to Adam Schiff and the Texas Democratic Party will go through immediately: [CHIP IN $10 NOW]( [CHIP IN $25 NOW]( [CHIP IN $50 NOW]( [CHIP IN $100 NOW]( [CHIP IN $250 NOW]( [ANOTHER AMOUNT]( President Biden’s impassioned speech on the GOP’s assault on voting rights and election integrity captured the urgency of this moment — Republicans are undermining our democracy, our liberty, and our sacred right to vote. But we need to go further. We need to demand that the Democratic Senate abolish the filibuster and protect voting rights without delay. Trump and McConnell went around the filibuster to install Barrett, Kavanaugh, and Gorsuch on the Supreme Court. And to ram through tax cuts for billionaires and corporations. Now Democrats must act and eliminate the filibuster — especially for something as sacred as voting rights. Already one of the most difficult states to cast a ballot, Texas Republicans are looking to pass a slew of new voting restrictions after the state’s highest election turnout in almost 30 years. By making people wait longer, travel farther, and choose from fewer options, Republicans are striving to make it as difficult and inconvenient as possible for Americans to vote. That’s not to mention that virtually every measure has a disproportionate impact on communities of color. We cannot allow our last, best opportunity to pass H.R. 1 and protect voting rights to slip away. Because these same Republicans suppressing the vote will stop at nothing to gerrymander their way into power for the next decade. We must not let the filibuster prevent us from protecting voting rights. The only way we can stop this new wave of voter suppression and election subversion is by ensuring passage of H.R. 1 and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. As President Biden so rightly asked: “Are you on the side of truth or lies, facts or fiction, justice or injustice, democracy or autocracy?” [Split a donation right now between the Texas Democratic Party and our campaign to defend voting rights and help fuel our fight to pressure Senate Democrats to abolish the filibuster. It’s the only way to make progress and protect our democracy:]( If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your split donation to Adam Schiff and the Texas Democratic Party will go through immediately: [CHIP IN $10 NOW]( [CHIP IN $25 NOW]( [CHIP IN $50 NOW]( [CHIP IN $100 NOW]( [CHIP IN $250 NOW]( [ANOTHER AMOUNT]( It’s never been more clear that we need to abolish the filibuster to pass H.R. 1 and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to protect and uphold our democracy. I won’t stop fighting. And I know you won’t either. Thank you for playing such a critical role in this important work. — Adam Paid for and authorized by Schiff for Congress Schiff for Congress 150 E.
