{NAME}, today is President Trump’s last full day in office. And the Senate is finally back in session, days after the House voted to impeach him for incitement of insurrection. Trump may finally be leaving the White House tomorrow, but we must hold him accountable for his wrongdoing and ensure he never holds public office again. [Add your name if you think Trump should be disqualified from ever holding office again >>]( [ADD YOUR NAME]( {NAME}, For the second time, the U.S. House voted to impeach President Donald J. Trump, this time for inciting a violent insurrection. His impeachment will now go down in history as only the fourth in U.S. history, and the first president to be impeached twice. Impeachment is a rare and somber occasion in our democracy, but House Democrats and ten House Republicans stood up in the aftermath of last week’s violent mob attack on the Capitol. We upheld our oath of office to defend our democracy against all threats, foreign and domestic. The 232 members of Congress who voted to impeach Trump said, “enough.” Now, Trump and our democracy’s fate once again lie in the hands of the U.S. Senate. Every day that Donald Trump remains in office, he poses a danger to our nation, but Mitch McConnell has indicated that he will delay a trial until after President Elect Joe Biden is sworn in. [Add your name to my petition demanding Senate Republicans and Democrats unite for the sake of our democracy and vote to ensure Trump can never hold public office again.]( [ADD YOUR NAME]( Listen, just one year ago, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and all but one Republican senator refused to convict and remove Donald Trump after he abused his powers to try to cheat in the election. And we now know what happened next. The President wasn’t chastened or changed by impeachment. Instead, after he lost the election to Joe Biden, he refused to concede, and spread lies and conspiracy theories that undermine our democracy. He tried to overturn the results in the courts, in the state legislatures, through the Vice President and Congress, and finally, when all those approaches failed, he riled up a mob and told them to go to the Capitol. Senate Republicans now must do what they should have the first time, and disqualify Trump for inciting an insurrection against the peaceful transfer of power. As of right now, McConnell says he won’t bring the Senate back to session until next Tuesday, January 19th — the very last day of Trump’s presidency and day before President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration. They must not delay. Donald Trump is a clear and present danger to our democracy. And he must be disqualified. Why? So he is finally held accountable for his dangerous and destructive actions and can never hold public office again. [Senate Republicans must stand up to this threat to our democracy. Let’s make it explicitly clear to them and demand they join us on the right side of history: add your name to call on the Senate to disqualify Trump now.]( Thanks for always standing with us in this fight. — Adam Paid for and authorized by Schiff for Congress Schiff for Congress 150 E.
