Breaking news, {NAME}: The Justice Department just announced that it is seeking to dismiss the criminal case against Trump’s former national security advisor, Michael Flynn. It’s disgusting. Michael Flynn pleaded guilty – twice – for lying about his illicit Russian contacts. And remember, his lies concerned efforts to undermine sanctions imposed on Russia over its interference with our election — to help Trump win. His lies don’t now magically become truths. And this dismissal doesn’t exonerate him. But it does incriminate Attorney General Bill Bar — in the worst politicization of the Justice Department in its history. Bill Barr has made it clear that his primary goal is to serve and protect Donald Trump, not the people. He “auditioned” for the job by writing a lengthy memo outlining his hostility to the Mueller investigation implicating President Trump, and then discussed it with him prior to his nomination. Barr went on to undermine that investigation and falsely represent its conclusions. Combined with his earlier efforts to weaken the sentencing recommendation for Roger Stone, and the current effort to dismiss the entire case against Flynn, Barr has broken down any semblance of independence in the Justice Department and dramatically undermined the rule of law in this country. I began my career in public service in the Justice Department, and it’s devastating to see what Trump and Barr are doing to it, because of what it means for our democracy. November is our chance to stop the hemorrhaging of our democracy under Trump and Barr’s corrupt leadership. This president and his cronies think they’re above the law – let’s prove them wrong at the ballot box once and for all.
