Friend, another Tax Day has come and gone. It can be a tough day , but paying our taxes is the price

[Adam Schiff for Senate]( Friend, another Tax Day has come and gone. It can be a tough day (I don’t know about you, but I owed a lot), but paying our taxes is the price of good governance, vital infrastructure, our safety net, and our national defense. This Tax Day brought to mind just how stark the difference is between Steve Garvey and me. For one thing, I pay my taxes. All of them. I don’t have a fortune in tax liens against me because I don’t pay my bills. Wish my opponent could say the same. Tax Day also highlights the differences between Joe Biden and Donald Trump — and the profound impact this election will have on our economy. You see, in 2017, when Republicans controlled Congress, Donald Trump signed a tax scam into law. Republican senators invited corporate lobbyists into the Senate to co-author the bill, and it passed in the dead of night, the week before Christmas. It was a $3.5 trillion giveaway to their megadonors and large corporations. That tax law is up for renewal in 2025. Trump and Garvey want to extend it — and give away another $3.8 trillion to their rich friends. Meanwhile, Joe Biden has a plan to make the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share, with a plan that would raise $4.9 trillion in tax revenue and cut the deficit by $3.2 trillion. President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act already instituted a 15% corporate minimum tax — making corporations pay their fair share after the Trump tax scam allowed some of them to pay $0 some years in federal taxes. Now, he’s going a step further with a proposal for a billionaire minimum income tax of 25% on households with a net worth above $100 million. No president in the modern history of this country has done more to level the playing field than Joe Biden. That’s the story we need to tell across California, and across the country. And I will proudly work alongside President Biden to pass fair tax laws in the Senate — no corporate lobbyists invited. [While Trump and Garvey fight for their MAGA megadonors, Joe Biden and I are fighting for the American people. I’m going to continue giving it my all to ensure that after the most important election of our lifetimes, we can build on the progress we’ve made.
