And I'm not bashful in admitting it. The saying "money doesn't make you happy" is one of the biggest bullshid sayings to exist. Having money is like having a bunch of freedom tickets to use as you please. The sooner you can STOP worrying about money, the better. You stop worrying about money once you have enough of it to cover your basic needs (food, shelter, health) and pay for convenience. I grew up cheap and was taught to hoard every cent I had. We would drive our rinky dink Toyota van across Oahu to save a few cents on gas. Now? I have a Porsche that only takes premium and will pay for the most expensive gas if it means I can save time/headache. That time can be spent on whatever I want. When I grew up... whenever we ate out... we were taught to look at the prices before choosing what to eat. Now? I actually get to eat the food I WANT to eat. Imagine that! My wife has some health stuff going on that will cost $40k-$50k to deal with in the immediate term, with even more in the long run. Without money we'd be in a v stressful situation. But because we have some freedom tickets? We can do what we gotta do without losing our a$$. Don't let anyone shame you for wanting more money and working hard to get it. I also became a poet and for one year lived in a paradise of my own creation; I imagined that I also might obtain a niche in the temple where the names of Homer and Shakespeare are consecrated. You are well acquainted with my failure and how heavily I bore the disappointment. But just at that time I inherited the fortune of my cousin, and my thoughts were turned into the channel of their earlier bent. Six years have passed since I resolved on my present undertaking. I shall depart for the latter town in a fortnight or three weeks; and my intention is to hire a ship there, which can easily be done by paying the insurance for the owner, and to engage as many sailors as I think necessary among those who are accustomed to the whale-fishing. I do not intend to sail until the month of June; and when shall I return? Ah, sister, how can I answer this question?
