I built a fat email list and this happened...

Back in 2017 I had a content site called Skrap City. It was for news and highlights in the fight industry. Mixed martial arts, boxing, crazy street fights, we posted it all. I had 2 writers who would write daily blogs and we would share it on our FB page. We would push people to our email list to get instant updates and access exclusive product discounts. I can’t remember exactly how big the list got, but it was in the ballpark of 40k-50k. So a pretty good amount of subscribers. We were monetizing through AdSense and website traffic… But that wasn’t enough. I needed more to make it worthwhile. So I started promoting affiliate products to our email list. Stuff like supplements, shakes and protein, dating programs, workout gear, and martial arts equipment. But there was a problem… No one bought! And to make matters worse… Every time I sent an email I would get a HUGE amount of spam complaints and replies from people telling me to go fork myself. My list was full of broke, angry, Tapout shirt-wearing bros lol. I tried different offers. I tried different copywriting styles and techniques. Nothing worked.
