If you're sliding toward burnout... know that you're not alone. [image] From Nathalie Hi {NAME}, The other night I had a dream where someone with the last name "Burn" signed off their emails as.... "Burn Out" Subtle, subconscious, very subtle. Speaking of burn-out... Burnout is all around us, from people working in the real world or online, in both employed and self-employed roles. There are so many factors involved, but I feel the biggest one is that our expectations (whether self-imposed or passed down from others) are just impossible to meet. You might be trying to pump out more content, always be available, or juggle work with more family or health stress than ever before... It's bonkers. So if you're sliding toward burnout or feeling run down... know that you're not alone. And that you can ask for help, get support, and shift your expectations to reduce the pressure. With love, Lussier Out [image] Momentum Tip #15 One thing that can take the wind out of your sails in criticism. It could be the "hater" variety... where some anonymous troll says something mean for no reason. These tend to happen more on certain platforms, like YouTube. Or, you might get genuinely helpful criticism that is valid but really stings. Here's how I deal with criticism: - Take in the valid points, and see where you do need to improve, change, or fix things. Yes, it stings but thereâs always a kernel worth exploring.
- In your mind, come up with the snarky or sharp response you wish you could send (don't even write it down, just thinking it is enough to get the reactive energy out).
- Make a list of the things this person needs to know. These could be facts supporting your work, circumstances, or other important details that you feel are important.
- You can include facts in your response, but these aren't as important for the person, and could make you look defensive. These facts are more for you, to help you see the context of the criticism in a balanced light.
- Write a response that starts by acknowledging how the critic might feel, let them know you appreciate their fedback, and address how you plan to take in their criticism. The truth is that no one is perfect. We're going to get criticism. Some of it has the potential to improve your life and business. Some of it, like the empty mean comments, don't deserve our energy. You can definitely delete and block people who post incendiary comments. That's what those features are there for! But taking the time to engage with the genuine people who are telling you when you're off track, that will lead to growth.
