[image] From the Founder Hi {NAME}! Turning down a solid $70K/year Wall Street coding job right out of college doesn’t seem like a smart move. Especially without a plan. But that’s exactly what I did after graduating with a degree in Software Engineering, back in 2008. That summer, I moved back in with my parents, planted a garden in their backyard, and made no money. Trying to find myself, knowing that I wanted to start a business… It was frustrating. Trying to get into motion, I started my first business in the health space, without any formal training. This became my training ground, where I learned about marketing, built my own website, and launched my first online course. Things came to a head when I realized I would either need to pursue training in the nutrition space, or pivot into something I was already good at like tech. It was a happy accident that I found myself with a successful online course on my hands, and that I was having integration issues with the WordPress plugin I was using. That’s when I realized that my software background and my husband’s substantial coding skills could solve our tech issues… if we could code our own solution. After a hurried weekend of coding, we had the first version of what would become the AccessAlly plugin for WordPress. It didn’t do much, but we realized that we were onto something when my course participants started asking us what platform we were using to run our courses. It was a pivotal moment. Today AccessAlly is a full-fledged payment, membership, and course delivery plugin for WordPress. It’s a 7-figure business and we employ incredible human beings to help us take amazing care of our clients. It’s a happy accident that a tech issue led us to where we are today. It wouldn’t have been possible to start this software company out of college, because I wouldn’t have known what to create, how to market it, and how to support it either. Here’s to happy accidents!
