Alicia Calderon, 37, was found guilty of first-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury to a household member, according to Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis. The victim was to live rent-free in exchange for housekeeping duties, childcare, and care for an elderly, disabled woman. The victim’s ordeal began with Calderon confiscating her cell phone, restricting her food intake, and limiting her movements. The victim was then locked in a room with the ailing elderly woman, leading to a severe decline in her health and weight. Calderon’s brutal actions escalated to physical harm in July 2021 when she caught the victim sneaking food and punished her by pouring boiling water on her, causing severe burns. The victim was denied medical treatment for her injuries and was subjected to further torture, including being locked in a dog crate and having more boiling water poured on her during an argument. The victim’s desperate plea for help came in February 2022 when she managed to send a Facebook message to her stepfather using a phone borrowed from another resident in the house. Upon receiving the distress message, the victim’s stepfather immediately called 911 and rushed to the trailer. When law enforcement arrived, they found the victim weighing just 68 pounds, her head shaven, and her body covered in second- and third-degree burns. The elderly woman under the victim’s care was also found in a critical condition. During the trial, it was revealed that Calderon had been misusing the elderly woman’s funds, spending $78,000 of her inheritance within three months and cashing her social security checks for years. The money was squandered on frivolous items such as party rentals, vehicle rims, and tattoos.
