Medina disclosed to the deputies that she had taken Xanax, a suboxone strip used for opioid addiction treatment, and snorted three lines of cocaine the previous night. On Tuesday morning, Medina, her children, and her boyfriend woke up around 6:30 a.m. After her boyfriend left for work, Medina was left alone with her children. She fed them and turned on cartoons for them to watch. According to Medina, she began hearing voices around 2:30 p.m., telling her that she needed to send her children to heaven that day. The voices warned her that someone would come to take her and her children and place them in a dark hole. The voices also threatened that they would be tortured until the end of their lives if she didn’t comply. After hearing these voices, Medina filled a bathtub with water, brought her children into the bathroom, and expressed her love for them. She then submerged both children under the water, holding them by their necks until they stopped moving. After the act, Medina changed into dry clothes and observed the lifeless bodies of her children in the bathtub. Medina then left her home, drove to the sheriff’s office, and confessed to the deputies about the incident. She also handed over a key to her home. When law enforcement arrived at her home, they discovered the lifeless bodies of the children in the bathtub. Indiana State Police processed the crime scene, and the Lawrence County Coroner’s Office removed the bodies that night. Medina was arrested on two preliminary counts of murder and is currently being held without bond in the Lawrence County Jail. The Indiana State Police are also seeking to add two charges of neglect of a dependent child causing death.
