This farm, inherited by two sisters from their mother, has a rich history. The first planting in the Ave María Orchard is dated on one of its grove gates with the year 1867. At the time, the appetite for marmalade had grown to fever pitch in old Blighty, which launched an era of massive exportation of “Seville” oranges to England. In the 80s, the girls’ mother began organic production, and it is believed that this was the first organic fruit farm of its kind in all of Spain at the time. What makes the fruit from this orchard particularly special is the composition of the soil, which gives a special sweetness to the orange. That, coupled with organic cultivation preserves the aroma and purity of the fruit. It’s no wonder these sisters have adoring fans.
