As a kid growing up in a union family in rural Iowa, I've always known what it looks like to work hard for everything you've got. My parents both worked hard to provide for our family – my mom in the public school system and my dad as a union pipefitter-welder. They did everything to give my siblings and me a fair shot at life. But as good-paying union jobs disappear and the cost of living skyrockets, it's getting harder and harder for parents to give their kids the opportunities they deserve.
