[View in browser]( [AARP Real Possibilities] AARP CONNECTICUT ADVOCACY [bullhorn] Take Action to Support Nursing Home Residents [Tell lawmakers]( let residents have cameras in their rooms and end nursing home immunity from civil liability. Dear {NAME}, Although fewer than one percent of Connecticut residents live in nursing homes, nursing home residents have accounted for nearly 20 percent of all COVID-19 infections in Connecticut and more than 60 percent of deaths. This is unacceptable. [Lawmakers must act now]( to protect nursing home residents. [Nursing home image] AARP and the Connecticut Long Term Care Ombudsman are asking lawmakers to [do two things]( 1. Allow nursing home residents to install cameras in their rooms. Visitation has been restricted in nursing homes since March, and many families have found it difficult to monitor their loved ones and remain involved in their care. Allowing residents to install cameras would make it easier for residents to stay in touch with friends and family, and it would provide their loved ones with peace of mind. 2. Ask Governor Lamont to repeal Executive Order 7V, which grants nursing homes immunity from civil liability even when nursing facilities are "unable to provide the level or manner of care that otherwise would have been required in the absence of the COVID-19 pandemic." A recent article from the [Washington Post]( addressed the issue of civil immunity in nursing facilities and highlighted the story of one Connecticut family. This story is heartbreaking, and it is not unique. No family should have this experience, but when they do, they should have options for recourse. We need to support nursing home residents and their loved ones. [Please take action TODAY](.
