And their races could decide control of Congress next year. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ 314 Action Fund is the only national organization working to train, recruit, support, and elect Democrats with STEM and medical backgrounds to office at all levels of government. To receive our most important updates,[click here](. To unsubscribe instantly [you can click here.]( Every single Republican running for President supports banning abortion and stripping tens of millions of women of their right to make their own medical decisions. The Supreme Court just announced it would take up a case that “will decide whether the abortion pill will be widely available.” The Associated Press is warning that “House Republicans are “quiet[ly] push[ing] for new restrictions on abortion access.” They’ve already introduced a DOZEN anti-abortion measures in must-pass budget bills in the past few months. It’s never been more important to elect pro-choice doctors to Congress who will defend, restore, and expand reproductive rights. [We’re supporting SIX incredible pro-choice doctors running for some of the most competitive House seats in the nation: Will you consider donating $6 or more so we can elect Maxine, Kim, Herb, Kelly, Brian, and Yadira?]( . Maxine Dexter (OR-3) – Maxine never imagined she would run for office. Then, as an I.C.U. physician trying desperately to save lives on the frontlines of the Covid-19 pandemic, she saw Republicans across the country attack vaccines, science, healthcare workers and institutions. Many of the patients who ended up in her I.C.U. wouldn’t have been there if Republicans didn’t politicize vaccines and safety precautions. Then she watched as Republicans celebrated overturning Roe v. Wade and decided enough was enough: So she decided to run. Maxine is running for an open must-win seat for Democrats in Oregon. Your support could help make Maxine only the third pro-choice woman doctor in all of Congress. --------------------------------------------------------------- . Kim Schrier (WA-8) – Kim was inspired to run for office after she watched Republicans try to dismantle protections for Americans with pre-existing conditions (like herself, who have Type 1 Diabetes). As a pediatrician, she knew how badly this would affect her patients if they succeeded. So she attended one of our candidate trainings and ran for Congress in a district that had NEVER elected a Democrat in its history. Because of supporters like you, she won and became the only woman doctor in the entire Congress. She would also become the first pediatrician elected in the history of Congress. Kim’s seat has been designated as one of the top targets in the nation by House Republicans because of its conservative lean. It is currently rated as a toss-up. --------------------------------------------------------------- . Herb Conaway (NJ-3) – Herb has a profile that few candidates in the country do: He’s a physician, a military Veteran, a lawyer, and a public servant. In fact, when he ran locally in New Jersey he made history as the only member of the state legislature to hold a Medical Degree and Law Degree at the same time (and continued to practice medicine while serving!). He refuses to sit back as Republicans attack our democracy, our care, and our rights. Which is why he is running for the open seat held by Democrat Andy Kim (which was considered a safe Republican seat before Andy flipped it blue). If elected, like Dr. Brian Williams mentioned below, he would become the first Black doctor with the power to vote on legislation in the history of our Congress. Republicans will be trying to take back this seat. Your support will make sure Herb and Democrats keep it blue. --------------------------------------------------------------- . Kelly Morrison (MN-3) – There isn’t a single pro-choice OB/GYN out of 535 members of Congress. Kelly is running to change that. In 2018 she ran for a reliably Republican seat in the Minnesota State Legislature and defied the odds when she won as a first-time candidate – by just 200 votes (less than 1% of the vote!). In the state legislature, she has led the fight to not only defend reproductive rights but to expand them. Now, she’s running for the open seat vacated by Democrat Dean Phillips in a district that used to be reliably Republican. Her ability to keep this seat blue and make history depends on us. --------------------------------------------------------------- . Brian Williams (TX-32) – Like many of the doctors mentioned above, Brian originally never planned to run for office. Then a mass shooting happened in Dallas, Texas and he was the lead trauma surgeon at the center that would be receiving the gunshot victims. Since then, he’s become a leading national advocate for gun safety legislation and helped Democrats pass the first bipartisan gun safety bill in 30 years. If elected, Brian would become the first trauma surgeon ever elected in the history of Congress. This is an open must-win seat for Democrats (and was previously held by the GOP). --------------------------------------------------------------- . Yadira Caraveo (CO-8) – Yadira is a pediatrician who ran for Congress for the first time in 2022 for a newly created district in Colorado that is split 50-50 between Democrats and Republicans. Nate Silver’s FiveThirtyEight gave her a 9% chance of winning. Because of supporters like you, she ended up winning by a margin of just 1,600 votes (less than 1% of the vote!). In doing so, she became the only woman of color who is a doctor in all of Congress. Because this was one of the closest races in the nation in 2022, Yadira’s seat has been designated as one of the top targets in the nation by House Republicans. It is currently rated as a toss-up. --------------------------------------------------------------- We will be investing HEAVILY to elect these doctors in these critical races. But our ability to finance our voter outreach efforts depends 100% on individual donations made through emails like these. [So $6 might not seem like much, but when thousands of you donate, it’s enough to fund the programs that will reach hundreds of thousands of voters in the races that will decide control of the House.]( If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will be immediately processed.. Since 2017, we’ve supported more than 500+ candidates and reached millions of swing voters on their behalf with our data-driven messaging campaigns. Our candidates led the charge to flip the House in 2018, the Senate in 2021, and a handful of state legislatures in 2022. Now, there are more scientists in office than at any point in U.S. history. No one is better equipped to craft policy to address pressing issues like gun violence, climate change, healthcare reform, or restoring reproductive rights than scientific professionals. Recent polling confirms that scientific and medical professionals have some of the highest approval ratings and levels of trust among voters – Meaning our candidates are better positioned to win tough races and can cut through the partisan divide! 100% of our work is powered by individual donations and our average donation is just $19. We plan on supporting more Democratic scientists and medical professionals in virtually every state this election cycle than at any point in our history. With you by our side, we’ll defend our Senate majority, retake the House, keep the White House blue, and elect a historic wave of Democrats to state legislatures and local office.
