We wanted to give you a brief recap about last night below and key investments we made in some of those critical races: [Before then, will you make a MATCHED donation to support our efforts to elect pro-choice Democratic scientists in virtually EVERY state next year? We plan on supporting 500+ Federal and state level Democrats (more than EVER before!) but rely 100% on individual donations.]( [IN VIRGINIA:]( We were proud to support a slate of incredible Democratic scientists running for the State House – 2 of which were running in toss-up races and 4 of which were open seats Democrats needed to win to flip the State House. When cybersecurity expert Michael Feggans flipped VA HD-97 – the tipping point district in Virginia – we FLIPPED control of the Virginia State House. Computer scientist Marty Martinez (VA HD-29), geologist Amy Laufer (VA HD-55), and engineer Bonita Anthony (VA HD-92) all turned open seats blue with their victories as well. Because of supporters like you we were able to invest nearly $300,000 to reach critical Virginia voters and financially support our candidates when they needed it the most! [IN OHIO:]( We were proud to partner with Ohioans United for Reproductive Rights in their historic campaign to codify abortion rights into law via ballot measure. Last night, Ohio became the first state with a GOP trifecta to codify abortion rights into law – and by a wide margin of more than 10 points! Many of our candidates with backgrounds in medicine in Ohio, like Dr. Anita Sormani and Beth Liston, played critical roles reaching undecided voters, appearing in ads, and hosting events to gather ballot signatures. Supporters like you were the reason we could help reach tens of thousands of Ohio voters and help finance these efforts. [IN NEW HAMPSHIRE & NEW JERSEY:]( Nurse Paige Beauchemin (NH Hillsborough-3) won her critical special election meaning Democrats are expected to TIE control of the GOP controlled State House. As a result, the NH State House is now the most vulnerable GOP majority in the nation going into 2024. In New Jersey, Democrats defended both majorities in the State House and Senate. Supporters like you helped Andrew Zwicker (NJ LD-16) become the first Democrat to defend this swing Senate seat in history and Dr. Margie Donlon (NJ LD-11) flipped her district from red to blue. Our average donation is $17 and we’re one of the only national organizations that invests at the state and local level like this – Your support is the reason we’re cutting into the GOP advantage in many state legislatures. [IN KENTUCKY & MISSISSIPPI:]( We were proud to support Andy Beshear’s re-election because we know how pivotal it is to have pro-science, pro-choice, pro-climate leaders at the state level. Andy won decisively last night in a state that voted for Donald Trump by nearly 30 points. Because of supporters like you, Andy had the resources to organize and reach voters in every single county, running up his margin of victory across the state. And in Mississippi, biologist Fabian Nelson (MS HD-66) made history as the first LGBTQ+ lawmaker to ever be elected to the Mississippi state legislature. It’s critical we continue to invest in red states that others sometimes write off and we plan on investing in virtually every single state this election cycle. If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will be immediately processed. Since 2017, we’ve supported more than 500+ candidates and reached millions of swing voters on their behalf with our data-driven messaging campaigns. Our candidates led the charge to flip the House in 2018, the Senate in 2021, and a handful of state legislatures in 2022. Now, there are more scientists in office than at any point in U.S. history. No one is better equipped to craft policy to address pressing issues like gun violence, climate change, healthcare reform, or restoring reproductive rights than scientific professionals. Recent polling confirms that scientific and medical professionals have some of the highest approval ratings and levels of trust among voters – Meaning our candidates are better positioned to win tough races and can cut through the partisan divide! 100% of our work is powered by individual donations and our average donation is just $19. We plan on supporting more Democratic scientists and medical professionals in virtually every state this election cycle than at any point in our history. With you by our side, we’ll defend our Senate majority, retake the House, keep the White House blue, and elect a historic wave of Democrats to state legislatures and local office.
