Do you have a moment for a personal update? 314 Action Fund is the only national organization working to train, recruit, support, and elect Democrats with STEM and medical backgrounds to office at all levels of government. To receive our most important updates,[click here](. To unsubscribe instantly [you can click here.]( Dr. Brian Williams is a trauma surgeon, Air Force Veteran, and respected leader on gun violence prevention. If elected he will be the first trauma surgeon elected to Congress in U.S. history. I don’t have a lot of free time at the moment – between being present for my family, working as a trauma surgeon in Texas, running for Congress as a first-time candidate, and touring the country sharing solutions to end the epidemic gun violence. But I will take the time to personally update you on my campaign: [Before I do, will you become one of the 1,000 online donors we need before our critical FEC End of Quarter fundraising deadline at the end of this month? Donations to emails like these help us tremendously.]( Unlike virtually any other political candidate out there, I’m still working day-to-day to treat my patients, respond to emergencies, and save lives. To be honest, many friends and colleagues wondered if I’d have the time and energy to commit to a campaign and still practice medicine. The consensus was clear: It would not be easy. Especially as a first-time candidate who wouldn’t have the same access to resources, funding, and networks like other established politicians do for a highly competitive race. But I chose to run because I knew I had to run. In June 2016, I felt a mix of anger and grief as news broke of the mass shooting at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida. Less than one month later, I was on duty when victims of another mass shooting–all police officers–tested the limits of my trauma center in Dallas. Three officers died on my watch, and it nearly broke me. There’s only so much modern medicine can do when faced with the devastating injuries from the weapons of war flooding our streets (and I can speak from experience as an Air Force Veteran). I’ve had to tell too many families they would not see their loved ones again as a result of preventable gun violence, and I am done. I could no longer wait for Texas or Congress to take meaningful action: So I will take action as the first trauma surgeon ever elected to Congress where I will be relentless in my commitment to ending the epidemic of gun violence. Running for Congress as a first time candidate has not been easy. But in the months since I’ve announced, we’ve gained local, statewide, and national attention. We’ve had tens of thousands of you pitch in to spread word on social media, volunteer, and donate. And my team says, because of you, we’re fundraising at the level we need to keep this former GOP district blue next year. But we can’t become complacent–not for a moment. [I’m not running to make history – I’m running because I took an oath to save lives. And there are so many lives we can save with comprehensive action on gun violence. So can I count on your support ahead of this critical FEC fundraising deadline?]( If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will be immediately processed and split between 314 Action and Dr. Brian Williams. Onward, Brian 314 Action is the only national organization working to elect Democrats with backgrounds in science and medicine at ALL levels of government – from the Senate down to local school boards. Since 2017, we’ve supported more than 500+ candidates and reached millions of swing voters on their behalf with our data-driven messaging campaigns. Our candidates led the charge to flip the House in 2018, the Senate in 2021, and a handful of state legislatures in 2022. Now, there are more scientists in office than at any point in U.S. history. No one is better equipped to craft policy to address pressing issues like gun violence, climate change, healthcare reform, or restoring reproductive rights than scientific professionals. Recent polling confirms that scientific and medical professionals have some of the highest approval ratings and levels of trust among voters – Meaning our candidates are better positioned to win tough races and can cut through the partisan divide! 100% of our work is powered by individual donations and our average donation is just $19. We plan on supporting more Democratic scientists and medical professionals in virtually every state this election cycle than at any point in our history. With you by our side, we’ll defend our Senate majority, retake the House, keep the White House blue, and elect a historic wave of Democrats to state legislatures and local office.
