These four women are on the frontlines in Georgia, Arizona, and Michigan fighting to restore the right to access a safe and legal abortion. Wade overturned, a staggering 31 states will either restrict abortion access or ban it entirely by the end of December. In some states there will be no exceptions to these bans, even if the mother’s life is in danger. And in states like Georgia, Arizona, and Michigan, the future of abortion rights will be decided this November. So far, we’ve endorsed and are supporting nearly 400 pro-choice Democratic scientists and healthcare providers at the state and local level in key races. Nearly three dozen are pro-choice women with backgrounds in healthcare and reproductive care, including nurses, pediatricians, physicians, and pharmacists. [Your money goes significantly further in local races. Which is why we’re asking if you’ll split a donation of as little as $4 between these four women in healthcare: Dr. Michelle Au and Dr. Kelly Coffman in Georgia, Eva Burch in Arizona, and Angela Witwer in Michigan.]( [ELECT PRO-CHOICE CHAMPIONS »]( --------------------------------------------------------------- In Georgia, Gov. Brian Kemp and the GOP-held legislature passed one of the nation’s most extreme abortion bans into effect. Two pro-choice women physicians are on the frontlines fighting this ban: [Dr Michelle Au]( Dr. Michelle Au (GA HD-50) — Dr. Michelle Au is the only pro-choice physician in the entire Georgia General Assembly. She has been a tireless pro-choice champion in a state where Republicans passed one of the nation’s most extreme abortion bans into law. Republicans actually tried to draw Michelle out of the assembly entirely during redistricting as punishment. This House district was decided by just 1,500 votes in 2020 and is widely considered one of the most competitive state legislative races in America. [Dr Kelly Coffman]( Dr. Kelly Coffman (GA HD-53) - Dr. Kelly Coffman is a Georgia physician who specializes in reproductive psychiatry, where she treats and helps pregnant women and mothers with postpartum depression. There are few people more qualified than Kelly to speak to just how dangerous the abortion ban signed into law in Georgia is for women. She was inspired to run for office while pregnant with her third child in a battleground district with no incumbent that many experts consider will be one of the most competitive races in all of Georgia. Her commitment to serve her patients goes beyond the doctor’s office. --------------------------------------------------------------- In Arizona, the GOP-led legislature passed a law criminalizing abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. Even worse, a judge lifted an injunction on a pre-statehood Arizona law that bans abortion in nearly all circumstances, including rape and incest. [Eva Burch]( Eva Burch (AZ SD-9)– Eva is a former emergency room nurse and nurse practitioner who is running against a vulnerable GOP Senator who opposes abortion in a race that could decide control of the entire chamber. Republicans only hold a majority in the Arizona State Senate by a single seat, with the chamber split 16-14. If Eva wins this race, we flip the ENTIRE State Senate and can make progress restoring access to abortion care in Arizona. --------------------------------------------------------------- In Michigan, the GOP-held legislature is trying to revive a dormant abortion law that threatens abortion providers with felony charges from the 1930s. This comes after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has veto’d several bills attempting to restrict abortion access from Republicans who barely hold majorities in the State House and Senate. [Angela Witwer]( Angela Witwer (MI HD-76) - Angela is a current Representative and former nurse who specialized in providing care to burn victims who is on the frontlines of this fight. In the House, Angela has been a consistent vote against abortion restrictions and has fought to ensure that doctors, nurses, and healthcare providers who provide abortion care cannot be prosecuted or jailed. It’s virtually impossible to flip the razor-thin Republican majority in the State House if we lose Angela, who is defending one of the most competitive Democratic-held seats in the state. --------------------------------------------------------------- [One donation might not seem like it will make a difference, but many of these races will be decided by a couple hundred votes. So when thousands of you step up and donate it’s enough to help these incredible women win their incredibly competitive races.]( If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will be immediately split between 314 Action, Dr. Michelle Au and Dr. Kelly Coffman in Georgia, Eva Burch in Arizona, and Angela Witwer in Michigan. [Click here to unsubscribe from 314 Action's Email List]( 314 Action is a grassroots community of over 6 million people working to elect Democratic scientists at all levels of government who will use science and facts to address some of our most pressing issues from climate change and gun violence to health care and protecting the environment. To date, we've flipped five U.S. Senate seats from red to blue, including drafting both Mark Kelly and John Hickenlooper to run, helped Democrats flip the House in 2018 by electing eight Democrats in red to blue districts, and secured more than six dozen state legislative victories -- All with an average donation of $18. The best way we can build on the progress we've achieved and empower President Joe Biden's science-first agenda is to defend our razor-thin majorities in the House and Senate, which is why we're targeting 68 Senate, House, Gubernatorial and statewide races ahead of 2022. We're creating political consequences for the Republicans who disavow science, deny the reality of climate change, and spread conspiracy theories as a result.
