In 2018 we elected the first and only climate expert ever elected to the U.S. Congress. Right now, nearly 140 members of Congress (all Republicans) are outspoken climate deniers who believe climate change to be a “hoax.” You are receiving this email from 314 Action Fund because you’ve previously expressed interest or taken part in our efforts. Right now, nearly 140 members of Congress (all Republicans) are outspoken climate deniers who believe climate change to be a “hoax.” The ONLY reason we were able to pass the largest climate bill in U.S. history is because of our pro-climate Democratic majorities in the House and the Senate. [We’re asking if you’ll give $4 to help us re-elect the only climate expert in Congress and elect three more environmental and climate experts running in TOSS-UP House races. If everyone reading this donated $4, we could reach millions of voters on behalf of these candidates and defend our pro-climate majority in the House.]( [DONATE NOW »]( [Sean Casten]( Casten (IL-06) – Sean Casten represents Illinois’ 6th Congressional district and was part of the historic blue wave in 2018 that flipped control of the House. In doing so, he became the first Democrat in nearly half a century to win this historically Republican seat, which he defended by a narrow margin in 2020. Sean is also the first and only climate expert ever elected to Congress – and is a leading member of the historic House Climate Crisis Committee. His experience with crafting private-public partnerships to invest in green and renewable energy is irreplaceable. Republicans have labeled defeating Sean a top priority of theirs and this race, considering its historic Republican lean, will be decided by single digits. --------------------------------------------------------------- [Eric Sorensen]( Sorensen (IL-17) - Eric Sorensen is a widely respected meteorologist who has been the go-to weatherman for his area for more than two decades. If elected, Eric would be the first meteorologist in Congress and the second-ever climate expert. At the beginning of his career, Eric was forced to leave his job after his employer discovered he was gay and therefore in violation of his contract according to them. Since then, Eric has made it a priority in his life to advocate on behalf of and fight for vulnerable and marginalized communities. And just this month, Republicans launched a disgusting homophobic ad campaign against him arguing that LGBTQ+ individuals are not fit for public office. Illinois’ 17th Congressional District is an open Democratic-held seat that Donald Trump carried in 2020 and Democrats defended by a razor-thin margin. If we do not defend this seat, Democrats are not expected to defend our House majority. --------------------------------------------------------------- [Jamie McLeod-Skinner]( McLeod-Skinner (OR-5) – Jamie McLeod-Skinner has a background in civil engineering, is an emergency response coordinator who led regional wildfire recovery efforts in Oregon, and has a law degree that specializes in natural resource law. Working and managing teams in refugee resettlement programs and wildlife recovery efforts has given Jamie the first hand experience protecting natural resources and tackling the impacts of the climate crisis. She has managed million dollar aid programs and would be one of the few members of Congress, if elected, who can speak to the on-the-ground impact climate change has on local communities. This is another Democratic-held seat that is split 50-50 between Democrats and Republicans and, like Eric’s race, has been rated as a TOSS-UP that will decide control of Congress. --------------------------------------------------------------- [Christina Bohannan]( Bohannan (IA-01) –Christina Bohannan worked as an environmental engineer who inspected environmental sites for levels of contamination before becoming a law professor at the University of Iowa. In 2020, Christina ran for local office and defeated a 20-year incumbent to serve in the Iowa State House. There, she championed legislation to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic and made key investments in public education. Now, she’s running against an anti-abortion extremist in a House seat that Republicans won by just SIX votes in 2020 (yes, just six votes!). Polling has consistently shown Christina tied with her extreme opponent, who is considered to be one of the most vulnerable Republicans in America. --------------------------------------------------------------- [Control of Congress could be decided by 4 climate and environmental experts. That’s why we’re asking if you’ll give as little as $4 so they win their 4 critical races.]( If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will be immediately processed. To date, we've flipped five U.S. Senate seats from red to blue, including drafting both Mark Kelly and John Hickenlooper to run, helped Democrats flip the House in 2018 by electing eight Democrats in red to blue districts, and secured more than six dozen state legislative victories -- All with an average donation of $18. The best way we can build on the progress we've achieved and empower President Joe Biden's science-first agenda is to defend our razor-thin majorities in the House and Senate, which is why we're targeting 68 Senate, House, Gubernatorial and statewide races ahead of 2022. We're creating political consequences for the Republicans who disavow science, deny the reality of climate change, and spread conspiracy theories as a result.
