We wanted to share with you the stories of four of our incredible Democratic scientists who are running to expand our pro-choice, pro-science majority in some of the most competitive races in the country. [Republicans are on the cusp of flipping control of Congress – they only need to flip four seats in the House – which is why Joe Biden just put out an urgent call to action:]( [It is critical that we maintain our Democratic majorities in the coming months. We’re going to need a huge grassroots effort this November -- as big as the one we assembled together in 2020 -- to help protect our majorities in Congress so that we can continue passing my and Kamala’s agenda. With only four House seats standing between a Republican- or Democratic-controlled Congress, there is a lot on the line -- and Democrats nationwide are relying on the support of folks like you. Now is when we need you the most.]( The fact is, Democrats cannot defend our House majority if we lose these four highly competitive, toss-up races. [Before we introduce you to the Democrats who will decide control of Congress: We’re asking if each of you will consider splitting a donation between Eric Sorensen in Illinois, Tony Vargas in Nebraska, Jamie McLeod-Skinner in Oregon, and Dr. Yadira Caraveo in Colorado. Even just $4 split between these four candidates makes a major difference!]( [DONATE NOW »]( [Eric Sorensen]( Eric Sorensen (IL-17) – Eric Sorensen is a widely respected meteorologist who has been the go-to weatherman for his area for more than two decades. At the beginning of his career, he was forced to leave his job after his employer discovered he was gay and therefore in violation of his contract. Since then, Eric has made it a priority in his life to advocate on behalf of and fight for vulnerable and marginalized communities. So at a time when the GOP is working to strip away our right to vote, women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights, Eric decided to run for office for the first time. Illinois’ 17th Congressional District is an open Democratic-held seat that Donald Trump carried in 2020. Defending it is crucial to defending our pro-science majority and Eric is the only Democrat with the experience and background to do just that. --------------------------------------------------------------- [Tony Vargas]( Tony Vargas (NE-2) – – Tony Vargas is a former science teacher and Nebraska state legislator who has built a reputation for working with anyone for the benefit of his constituents and his country. Tony is the son of immigrants and the first generation in his family to graduate college. He credits his parents' sacrifice and encouragement to his commitment to community, hard work, and public service. He has a proven track record of success in the state legislature passing legislation to strengthen public education, encourage technological innovation, and improve access to healthcare. In the 2020 election, Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District was one of the only Congressional districts won by a Republican that voted for Joe Biden at the top of the ticket. Whether or not Democrats hold the House will come down to flipping districts like this. --------------------------------------------------------------- [Jamie McLeod-Skinner]( Jamie McLeod-Skinner (OR-5) –Jamie McLeod-Skinner has a background in civil engineering, is an emergency response coordinator who led regional wildfire recovery efforts, and has a law degree that specializes in natural resource law. Jamie was raised by a single mother who worked three jobs to make ends meet and she worked her way through school and later law school to get an education. And as a former union member and organizer, she knows all too well how hard it can be for families to get by and decided, alongside her wife, it was time to run for office to give families a fighting voice in Congress. She pulled off a stunning upset in the Democratic primary and is now the nominee for Oregon’s 5th Congressional District – an open-held Democratic seat that is split 50-50 between Democrats and Republicans. --------------------------------------------------------------- [Yadira Caraveo]( Dr. Yadira Caraveo (CO-8) – As part of the redistricting process, Colorado lawmakers created a true toss-up district: it’s split evenly 50-50 between Republicans and Democrats and it’s an open seat. Colorado has never elected a Latina to Federal office and Yadira, a local pediatrician and state legislator who has become the go-to expert for public health and healthcare related legislation in local Colorado politics, is trying to change that. With several Democratic incumbents retiring and GOP gerrymandering costing Democrats seats, we have to win highly competitive toss-up districts like Colorado’s 8th if we’re going to hold our historically narrow majority in the House. [One donation may feel like a drop in the bucket compared to the GOP’s $100 million dollar war chest. But when thousands of you step up and donate, especially for races that are expected to be decided by razor-thin margins, it will make a crucial difference.]( If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will be immediately split between 314 Action Fund, Eric Sorensen in Illinois, Tony Vargas in Nebraska, Jamie McLeod-Skinner in Oregon, and Yadira Caraveo in Colorado: [CHIP IN $6 IMMEDIATELY »]( [CHIP IN $25 IMMEDIATELY »]( [CHIP IN $50 IMMEDIATELY »]( [CHIP IN $100 IMMEDIATELY »]( [CHIP IN $200 IMMEDIATELY »]( [CHIP IN ANOTHER AMOUNT »]( Thank You 314 Action PAID FOR BY 314 ACTION FUND, 314ACTION.ORG, NOT AUTHORIZED BY ANY CANDIDATE OR ANY CANDIDATE'S COMMITTEE. [Click here to unsubscribe from 314 Action's Email List]( 314 Action is a grassroots community of over 6 million people working to elect Democratic scientists at all levels of government who will use science and facts to address some of our most pressing issues from climate change and gun violence to health care and protecting the environment. To date, we've flipped five U.S. Senate seats from red to blue, including drafting both Mark Kelly and John Hickenlooper to run, helped Democrats flip the House in 2018 by electing eight Democrats in red to blue districts, and secured more than six dozen state legislative victories -- All with an average donation of $18. The best way we can build on the progress we've achieved and empower President Joe Biden's science-first agenda is to defend our razor-thin majorities in the House and Senate, which is why we're targeting 68 Senate, House, Gubernatorial and statewide races ahead of 2022. We're creating political consequences for the Republicans who disavow science, deny the reality of climate change, and spread conspiracy theories as a result.
