With 26 states expected to either outright ban or virtually ban abortion by year’s end, it’s never been more important in the past half-century to elect pro-choice Democratic Governors to office. That’s why we wanted to share with you the stories of four of our incredible Democratic scientists who are running in the most competitive gubernatorial elections in the country. [Before we introduce you to four of our incredible candidates, can we ask you to chip in $4? One donation may not seem like it will make a difference, but when thousands step up and donate, it makes a huge difference in these four razor-thin races -- 2 of which are the most vulnerable pro-choice Governors in the country and the other 2 of which are running in the top 2 red-to-blue flip opportunities in the country.]( [DONATE NOW »]( [Tony Evers (Wisconsin)]( Evers (Wisconsin) – In Wisconsin, Republicans control both the state house and state senate. Over the past couple of years, they’ve advanced countless bills to further restrict and ban abortion in the state. And time and time again they’ve been thwarted thanks to pro-choice Gov. Tony Evers and his power to veto. Tony isn’t your typical politician: He’s a soft-spoken, down to Earth, former science teacher and high school principal who flipped Wisconsin from red to blue in a nail-biting close election in 2018 against Scott Walker, the face of the Tea Party. As Governor, Tony has vetoed Republican legislation to restrict reproductive rights and expand gun control, led Wisconsin through the pandemic, and fended off multiple recall efforts. His tenure has focused on bringing people together, instead of driving them apart by focusing on issues that will make Wisconsin a safer, more equitable place for everyone. Polling shows this race is within a single digit: Tony will need our help to win re-election and Wisconsin desperately needs a pro-choice, pro-science Governor in office. --------------------------------------------------------------- [Nan Whaley]( Whaley (Ohio) - Nan Whaley is running against the most corrupt Governor in America, GOP Gov. Mike DeWine, who also pioneered one of the most restrictive abortion bills ever passed in the country. Nan became the first person in her family to graduate from college, has a background in chemistry, and later became one of the most respected and acclaimed mayors in the country as the mayor of Dayton. As Mayor, she oversaw addressing the economic fallout from the Great Recession, was applauded for her success in combating the opioid crisis (reducing related deaths by 50%), established universal pre-K for the city’s residents, confronted Donald Trump face-to-face about gun violence in the wake of the state’s worst mass shooting, and led with science through COVID-19. Democrats won Ohio statewide in 2018 and current polling shows Democrats in position to do the same in 2022 – that is, with your help. --------------------------------------------------------------- [Gretchen Whitmer & Garlin Gilchrist (Michigan)]( Whitmer & Garlin Gilchrist (Michigan) – Michigan has an abortion ban on the books dating back to 1931 that could go into effect if enforced. But the reason Republicans haven’t been successful in their repeated attempts to ban abortion in Michigan is because of pro-choice Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and her repeated vetoes. In 2018, Gretchen Whitmer and Garlin (former computer engineer and software developer) flipped Michigan blue together after Trump won the state in 2016. Since then, Gretchen and Garlin have championed pro-choice legislation, supported a historic increase in public education funding, and won acclaim for their science-first response to the COVID-19 pandemic that saved so many lives. Republicans tried to repeatedly recall Gretchen for her response to COVID-19 and for listening to public health experts. Michigan needs a proudly pro-choice Governor and Lt. Governor to defend access to reproductive care but right now polling shows a statistically tied race. --------------------------------------------------------------- [Wes Moore & Aruna Miller (Maryland)]( Moore & Aruna Miller (Maryland) – Countless election experts from across the country consider Maryland’s OPEN GOP-held Governorship to be the best flip opportunity for Democrats in the nation. Wes Moore and Aruna Miller (background in civil engineering) represent our best chance to accomplish that and are running on an unapologetically bold and pro-science platform that will uplift families throughout the state. At a time when the Supreme Court is striking down gun safety provisions, the ability of the EPA to address the climate crisis, and sending reproductive rights back to the states, it’s never been more important for Maryland to have a Governor and Lt. Governor who will lead on those and so many other issues. [Pro-science, pro-choice Governors are our last line of defense against GOP attacks on rights: Donate now to fuel our fight for what is right.]( If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will be processed immediately: [CHIP IN $6 IMMEDIATELY »]( [CHIP IN $25 IMMEDIATELY »]( [CHIP IN $50 IMMEDIATELY »]( [CHIP IN $100 IMMEDIATELY »]( [CHIP IN $200 IMMEDIATELY »]( [CHIP IN ANOTHER AMOUNT »]( Together, we can do this, 314 Action Fund PAID FOR BY 314 ACTION FUND, 314ACTION.ORG, NOT AUTHORIZED BY ANY CANDIDATE OR ANY CANDIDATE'S COMMITTEE. [Click here to unsubscribe from 314 Action's Email List]( 314 Action is a grassroots community of over 6 million people working to elect Democratic scientists at all levels of government who will use science and facts to address some of our most pressing issues from climate change and gun violence to health care and protecting the environment. To date, we've flipped five U.S. Senate seats from red to blue, including drafting both Mark Kelly and John Hickenlooper to run, helped Democrats flip the House in 2018 by electing eight Democrats in red to blue districts, and secured more than six dozen state legislative victories -- All with an average donation of $18. The best way we can build on the progress we've achieved and empower President Joe Biden's science-first agenda is to defend our razor-thin majorities in the House and Senate, which is why we're targeting 68 Senate, House, Gubernatorial and statewide races ahead of 2022. We're creating political consequences for the Republicans who disavow science, deny the reality of climate change, and spread conspiracy theories as a result.
