we wanted to share with you the stories of four of our incredible Democratic scientists who identify as LGBTQ+ and are running in four of the most competitive Congressional and state legislative races in the nation. That’s why we wanted to share with you the stories of four of our incredible Democratic scientists who identify as LGBTQ+ and are running in four of the most competitive Congressional and state legislative races in the nation. [Before we introduce you to them: We’re asking if each of you will consider splitting a donation between Eric Sorensen in Illinois, Jamie McLeod-Skinner in Oregon, Brianna Titone in Colorado, and Erin Zweiner in Texas. Even just $4 split between these four candidates makes a major difference!]( [DONATE NOW »]( [Eric Sorensen]( Sorensen (IL-17) – Eric Sorensen is a widely respected meteorologist who has been the go-to weatherman for his area for more than two decades. At the beginning of his career, he was forced to leave his job after his employer discovered he was gay and therefore in violation of his contract. Since then, Eric has made it a priority in his life to advocate on behalf of and fight for vulnerable and marginalized communities. So at a time when the GOP is working to strip away our right to vote, women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights, Eric decided to run for office for the first time. Illinois’ 17th Congressional District is an open Democratic-held seat that Donald Trump carried in 2020. Defending it is crucial to defending our pro-science majority and Eric is the only Democrat with the experience and background to do just that. --------------------------------------------------------------- [Jamie McLeod-Skinner]( Jamie McLeod-Skinner (OR-5) –Jamie McLeod-Skinner has a background in civil engineering, is an emergency response coordinator who led regional wildfire recovery efforts, and has a law degree that specializes in natural resource law. Jamie was raised by a single mother who worked three jobs to make ends meet and she worked her way through school and later law school to get an education. And as a former union member and organizer, she knows all too well how hard it can be for families to get by and decided, alongside her wife, it was time to run for office to give families a fighting voice in Congress. She pulled off a stunning upset in the Democratic primary and is now the nominee for Oregon’s 5th Congressional District – an open-held Democratic seat that is split 50-50 between Democrats and Republicans. --------------------------------------------------------------- [Brianna Titone]( Brianna Titone (CO HD-27) – A Brianna Titone is a geologist, former volunteer firefighter (and voted junior Firefighter of the year for outstanding effort!), who became the state’s FIRST ever transgender lawmaker when she became the representative for Colorado House District 27 in a nail-bitingly close election in 2018. Brianna only won re-election in 2020 by 3% – fewer than 2,000 votes – over her extremist Republican opponent. In 2018, the previous midterm cycle, she won by less than 1%. Republicans only need to flip a handful of seats to win control of the chamber from Democrats and they’ve made unseating Brianna a top priority of theirs. --------------------------------------------------------------- [Erin Zwiener]( Zwiener (TX HD-45) – Erin Zwiener is a lifelong conservationist, three-time Jeopardy winner, K-12 educator, natural resources expert, and is the state representative for Texas House District 45. She founded and chairs the Texas House Caucus on Climate, Environment, and Energy Industry and has been described as a “potential future leader of the Texas House Democrats” for innovative and effective leadership. Erin also is a founding member of the State House LGBTQ+ Caucus. Erin only won re-election in 2020 by 1% of the vote – where just over 1,000 votes out of 113,558 cast decided this battleground race. At a time when GOP Gov. Greg Abbott and the Far-Right Texas GOP needs a check on their extremism more than ever, we need Erin in the Texas House to continue the good fight. [With Republicans waging a war on our right to vote, a woman’s right to choose, and pushing forward with a historic number of anti-LGBTQ+ bills, we need more LGBTQ+ leaders in office at ALL levels of government. Donate to Eric, Jamie, Brianna, and Erin so they can win their tough races and continue to FIGHT for what is right.]( If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will be immediately split between 314 Action, Eric Sorensen, Jamie McLeod-Skinner, Brianna Titone, and Erin Zwiener: [CHIP IN $6 IMMEDIATELY »]( [CHIP IN $25 IMMEDIATELY »]( [CHIP IN $50 IMMEDIATELY »]( [CHIP IN $100 IMMEDIATELY »]( [CHIP IN $200 IMMEDIATELY »]( [CHIP IN ANOTHER AMOUNT »]( Let’s celebrate Pride this year by electing a wave of tried-and-true LGBTQ+ leaders and scientists to office. Thank you, 314 Action Fund PAID FOR BY 314 ACTION FUND, 314ACTION.ORG, NOT AUTHORIZED BY ANY CANDIDATE OR ANY CANDIDATE'S COMMITTEE. [Click here to unsubscribe from 314 Action's Email List]( 314 Action is a grassroots community of over 6 million people working to elect Democratic scientists at all levels of government who will use science and facts to address some of our most pressing issues from climate change and gun violence to health care and protecting the environment. To date, we've flipped five U.S. Senate seats from red to blue, including drafting both Mark Kelly and John Hickenlooper to run, helped Democrats flip the House in 2018 by electing eight Democrats in red to blue districts, and secured more than six dozen state legislative victories -- All with an average donation of $18. The best way we can build on the progress we've achieved and empower President Joe Biden's science-first agenda is to defend our razor-thin majorities in the House and Senate, which is why we're targeting 68 Senate, House, Gubernatorial and statewide races ahead of 2022. We're creating political consequences for the Republicans who disavow science, deny the reality of climate change, and spread conspiracy theories as a result.
