Fueled by his family’s struggle with medical debt and his military and teaching experience, Tim Walz decided to run for office to fight for Minnesota families and flipped a highly competitive conservative House seat (one of which he won by less than 1%!). ☑️ As a member of Congress, he was the highest-ranking enlisted soldier to serve in the House and was given a rare third committee membership as a freshman member. Tim championed Veterans’ issues - including funding to research medical cannabis treatment for PTSD, was an outspoken advocate of public schools and teachers, and helped pass then President Barack Obama’s agenda to boost access to healthcare and to support American families during the Great Recession. ☑️ As Governor, Tim signed universal free school meals for students into law, safeguarded abortion access, reduced prescription drug prices, earned Minnesota the distinction as one of the best states for healthcare access and affordability, cut the child poverty rate by nearly 40%, acted on gun violence, banned forever chemicals, made college tuition free for low-income students, and restored voting rights for the formerly incarcerated.
