In the Senate, Kamala co-sponsored legislation to codify the protections of Roe v. Wade into law years before the Supreme Court struck down Roe. She also co-sponsored the historic Maternal Health Momnibus – a collection of a dozen bills designed to systematically address maternal and post-partum health in moms. As Attorney General of the largest state in the Union, Kamala made THE phone call to allow same-sex marriages to be legally recognized in California and won billions in cases brought against Big Banks and Big Oil & Gas for cheating the American people. In fact, she personally defended Barack Obama’s Clean Power Plan in Court and was the first AG to mandate police wear body cameras. As District Attorney, and as the first woman to serve as DA of San Francisco, she established one of the first environmental justice units in the country, the first hate crime units to support LGBTQ+ children and students, and one of the first gun crimes units in America.
