In 2018 we elected the first and only climate expert ever elected to the U.S. Congress. Right now

In 2018 we elected the first and only climate expert ever elected to the U.S. Congress. Right now, nearly 140 members of Congress (all Republicans) are outspoken climate deniers who believe climate change to be a “hoax.”  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ 314 Action Fund is the only national organization working to train, recruit, support, and elect Democrats with STEM and medical backgrounds to office at all levels of government. According to a recent scientific study, 'the window to avoid 1.5°C of (global) warming will close before 2030 if emissions not reduced.' We cannot afford another 2-4 years of climate-denying Republicans calling the shots in the House and blocking any meaningful action on climate. Thankfully we only need to flip FOUR seats to flip the House and secure a pro-climate majority. If these 4 climate champions win their toss-up races, Democrats are projected to flip the House. That’s we’re asking if you’ll split a donation DIRECTLY between meteorologist Eric Sorensen (IL-17), aerospace expert George Whitesides (CA-27), environmental engineer Christina Bohannan (IA-1), and science teacher Tony Vargas (NE-2). [Can you chip in $10, split evenly between Eric, George, Christina, and Tony? A donation of $10 might not seem important, but when thousands of you chip in, it makes a crucial impact.]( [DONATE »]( Sorensen (IL-17) – Eric is the first meteorologist in half a century to serve in Congress after winning a highly competitive seat that many election experts predicted Republicans would carry in 2022. During his campaign as a first-time candidate, Eric made the climate crisis a top issue and is one of the top priorities he is addressing as a freshman member of Congress. Three of his major focuses are improving protections for homes from climate related flooding, making farms more drought resistant to protect our nation’s food supply during severe weather events, and creating good-paying jobs with benefits in renewable, green, and clean energy. Eric is one of the most vulnerable Democrats in the nation and Republicans are planning to spend millions to win this toss-up district. Whitesides (CA-27) – George Whitesides served as the Chief of Staff of NASA under President Barack Obama and served as the first CEO of Virgin Galactic, a human spaceflight company. He made history when he co-founded the first organization dedicated solely to tracking and mitigating our country’s megafire crisis. While George has prioritized environmental preservation and climate action, the Far-Right Republican in Congress he is running against has accepted nearly a quarter million dollars from Big Oil & Gas and is considered one of the most reliably anti-climate votes in Congress. President Biden won this district by double digits in 2020 and Mike Garcia only won by just 333 votes, making this one of the best flip opportunities in the nation. Bohannan (IA-1) – Christina Bohannan worked as an environmental engineer who inspected environmental sites for levels of contamination before becoming a law professor at the University of Iowa and winning a highly competitive seat in the State Legislature. In the Iowa State House, she served on the Natural Resources Committee and the Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture and Natural Resources. There, she sponsored legislation to promote solar energy tax credits, water testing for lead and copper in schools and county water systems. Polling shows her with a SLIGHT LEAD against one of the most vulnerable Republicans in Congress (who only won her district by 6 votes in one of the closest House races in modern history). Vargas (NE-2) – Tony Vargas is a former earth sciences teacher and state legislator who knows exactly how the climate crisis is affecting Nebraskans. In the Nebraska State House, he introduced legislation to incentivize energy efficiency and use state funds to invest in clean school buses and electric vehicles. He also co-sponsored a resolution stating that the Legislature has a “moral obligation to combat climate change.” He’s made creating clean energy jobs and holding polluters accountable a cornerstone of his campaign for Congress. President Joe Biden carried this district by a wide margin in 2020 and Tony fell short by only a few votes from flipping this red seat blue in 2022. [If Eric, George, Christina, and Tony win these toss-up races, Democrats are projected to win the House. But, they will need your help to do that. Since 2017, we’ve supported more than 500+ candidates and reached millions of swing voters on their behalf with our data-driven messaging campaigns. Our candidates led the charge to flip the House in 2018, the Senate in 2021, and a handful of state legislatures in 2022. Now, there are more scientists in office than at any point in U.S. history. No one is better equipped to craft policy to address pressing issues like gun violence, climate change, healthcare reform, or restoring reproductive rights than scientific professionals. Recent polling confirms that scientific and medical professionals have some of the highest approval ratings and levels of trust among voters – Meaning our candidates are better positioned to win tough races and can cut through the partisan divide! 100% of our work is powered by individual donations and our average donation is just $19. We plan on supporting more Democratic scientists and medical professionals in virtually every state this election cycle than at any point in our history. With you by our side, we’ll defend our Senate majority, retake the House, keep the White House blue, and elect a historic wave of Democrats to state legislatures and local office.
