As an OB/GYN with experience working with Planned Parenthood and as a provider of reproductive health services, I wanted to talk to you about the abortion case the Supreme Court is hearing today (Moyle v. United States).  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ 314 Action Fund is the only national organization working to train, recruit, support, and elect Democrats with STEM and medical backgrounds to office at all levels of government. United States). [Before I do that: I wanted to ask if you would consider splitting a donation between my campaign to flip WI-8 blue and our friends at 314 Action who are working to elect a historic wave of pro-choice women in healthcare (like me!) to office across the country.]( [DONATE »]( Under EMTALA (the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act), hospitals are required to provide whatever emergency care is needed to save the life of a patient in an emergency situation – including an abortion if necessary. As you are aware, Republicans in several states have passed no-exception abortion bans into effect that do not include exceptions even if the life of the mother is at stake. But under EMTALA, because Federal law trumps State law, hospitals were still able to provide that care in emergency situations. That was until last January when the conservative majority on the Supreme Court temporarily nullified EMTALA applying to emergency abortions. The case being heard today that Republicans have brought forward in Moyle v. United States would make that January ruling permanent and effectively allow states with no-exception abortion bans to deny lifesaving abortions to women. I’ve seen the devastating effects of these laws up close. I’ve treated pregnant women in Wisconsin, Arizona, and Minnesota. Because of extreme abortion restrictions, I wouldn’t be able to provide the care and options every woman deserves in two of those, including my home state of Wisconsin. It’s why I personally sued to restore abortion access in Wisconsin. We lost it immediately with the Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v. Wade and this case is what brought it back. And it’s what inspired me to run for office for the first time here in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District – a GOP-held open seat that Democrats came within 4 points of winning in both the 2018 Senate election and 2023 Supreme Court election. I will fight to enshrine the protections of Roe v. Wade into law federally. If we win this race, Democrats are practically guaranteed to flip the House. And our friends at 314 Action are working hard to elect a historic wave of pro-choice women who are nurses, doctors, OB/GYNs, and pediatricians to fight to codify Roe in states across the country. [Please, join us in this fight: Every single dollar raised helps us reach more swing voters and elect more pro-choice women who will lead the fight to restore abortion access.]( If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will be immediately processed and split between 314 Action and Kristin Lyerly. Since 2017, we’ve supported more than 500+ candidates and reached millions of swing voters on their behalf with our data-driven messaging campaigns. Our candidates led the charge to flip the House in 2018, the Senate in 2021, and a handful of state legislatures in 2022. Now, there are more scientists in office than at any point in U.S. history. No one is better equipped to craft policy to address pressing issues like gun violence, climate change, healthcare reform, or restoring reproductive rights than scientific professionals. Recent polling confirms that scientific and medical professionals have some of the highest approval ratings and levels of trust among voters – Meaning our candidates are better positioned to win tough races and can cut through the partisan divide! 100% of our work is powered by individual donations and our average donation is just $19. We plan on supporting more Democratic scientists and medical professionals in virtually every state this election cycle than at any point in our history. With you by our side, we’ll defend our Senate majority, retake the House, keep the White House blue, and elect a historic wave of Democrats to state legislatures and local office.
