VAT increment to generate N479.7bn revenue
The proposed 7.2 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) proposal by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) is expected to generate additional N479.7 billion in revenues based on the N1.1 trillion collected in 2018 based on analysis by Afrinvest West Africa.
The think-tank revealed that based on the sharing formula, the Federal Government is to receive additional N72 billion (15 per cent), states to receive N239.8 billion (50 per cent) and local governments to get N167.9 billion (35 per cent) upon implementation. [Read more](

Oil prices soar after attacks on Saudi facilities
Oil prices hit their highest in four months after two attacks on Saudi Arabian facilities on Saturday knocked out more than 5% of global supply.
At the start of trading, Brent crude jumped 19% to $71.95 a barrel, while the other major benchmark, West Texas Intermediate, rose 15% to $63.34.

Suspect arrested in arson attack that destroyed historic Minnesota synagogue
A suspect has been arrested in an arson attack that almost completely destroyed a Duluth, Minnesota synagogue last week.
City officials announced Sunday that Matthew James Amiot, 36, was arrested last Friday and is being held on charges of first-degree arson, The Duluth News-Tribune reported.
The paper states that the investigation into the fire involved 20 officials from the Duluth police and fire departments, as well as the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, which was called in because of the suspicion that the arson was a religiously-motivated hate crime. Ric Ocasek, lead singer of 1980s US band The Cars, has died aged 74.
