Here is a new buzz in town you would do well not to ignore. The Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Commission recently hinted that the commission would begin the process towards reviewing the current revenue allocation formula.
The last time the commission did that was in 2013. But its 2014 report lies gathering dust on the shelves where such files spend their unproductive lives.
Mbamâs announcement generated a buzz because we are quick to presume that any such tinkering with the current formula would mean a new sharing formula more favourable to the states and the local governments. [Read more](

Buhari slams Atiku, calls electoral petition 'worthless'
President Muhammadu Buhari has criticized the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar by referring to his petition as the most worthless election allegation in history.
Buhari further urged the presidential election petition court to dismiss the petition due to its alleged lack of merit.

Buratai commends troops, pledges timely completion of 171 Battalion Barracks
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai has commended the troops in Daura for their commitment and achievement in combating armed banditry; cattle rustling; kidnapping and other security threats in Katsina State.
He disclosed this in a statement by Col. Sagir Musa, the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, in Abuja on Friday, August 16.
Buratai gave the commendation during a visit to the troops of Operation Harbin Kunama III and HADARIN DAJI operations in the North-Western part of the country, stationed at the base. [Read more](

The Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has opposed the move by the leadership of the National Assembly (NASS) to procure operational vehicles worth N5.5 billion for members of the Senate and House of Representatives.
Ohanaeze also queried why official cars purchased in the recent past could not be refurbished for the sitting lawmakers.

Auto crash: 1 dead, 7 injured on LagosâIbadan express road
One person was confirmed dead while seven others sustained injuries in an accident on Lagos-Ibadan expressway. The aacident involved a Mitsubishi Canter bus, a Toyota bus and a Bajaj motorcycle around Ogere Toll Gate.
Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Spokesperson for the Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) have announced a warning strike from Monday, August 19, to press the federal government to meet their demands.
The strike will last from August 19 to 23.
NASU had earlier planned for a nationwide protest on July 15 ahead of an indefinite strike over the failure of the federal government to implement its agreements with them. [Read more](

Skydive miracle: Woman in Canada survives 5,000-foot fall after her parachute failed
A woman survived a 5,000-foot fall with just broken bones after her parachute failed to deploy properly during a skydive in Canada.
The unnamed 30-year-old woman is currently in hospital with multiple broken vertebrae, but survived the fall from a plane over Trois-Rivières, Quebec, on Saturday evening, CBC reported.

Airtel planning to introduce mobile money scheme
Telecommunication company Airtel Africa has announced plans to roll out mobile money in Nigeria.
According to the telcoâs CEO Raghunath Mandava, the growth in revenue of Airtel was attributed to the double-digit growth across business products in Nigeria and East Africa.

YouTube warns its copyright changes could result in more takedowns
YouTube will no longer allow copyright holders to seize a creator's revenue over very brief or unintentional music clips that appears in videos, it said in a blog post.
That means that if a five-second clip or the radio from a passing car appears in a video, labels won't be able to make a "manual claim" and seize all the revenue.
However, they'll still be allowed to completely strike or demonetize videos with short clips, which "may result in more blocked content in the near-term," YouTube admitted. [Read more](
