Nigeria targets N180bn investment to ramp up palm oil production

Nigeria plans to invest 180 billion naira ($500 million) to increase palm oil production in the country. The government intends to see this take palm oil output from around 600,000 tons a year to 5 million tons a year by 2027. This was disclosed in a report released by the Ministry of Trade and Investment.
Despite boasting an abundance of the resource in Nigeria, the country still spends a considerable sum importing palm oil.
In 2018, the Nigerian government spent about $500 million importing 600,000 tons of palm oil. Furthermore, the volume imported last year was almost double the figure recorded in 2017. [Read more](
