Arnold’s photographs make New York City look like a rich, unconquerable tapestry where any interaction or moment can overflow with meaning, if only time is frozen and we look at it closely. A couple kiss in Washington Square Park fountain; a young boy looks bored as he waits to cross the street. “The best photos are just the result of putting one foot in front of the other, way past the point of reason, and stacking shit up and seeing what comes back,” Arnold told Interview magazine last week. Showing pictures right where they’re made completely collapses the need for the viewer’s imagination; instead, the exhibition becomes a kind of existential viewing aid – a place to stop, look, and wonder in a world short on time. Foam has announced its 20 artists for its annual Talent issue, whose work will feature in a mentorship programme and be included in its dedicated magazine and travelling exhibition in 2024 and through 2025. The list includes Rehab Eldalil, who discussed her book The Longing Of the Stranger Whose Path Has Been Broken – which she describes as an “alternative archive of modern Bedouin life” – [with Gem Fletcher back in May]( as well as André Ramos-Woodard, Aaryan Sinha and Jaclyn Wright. Congratulations too to Marisol Mendez, who worked on a [WaterAid-BJP climate commission]( last year, on her nomination. We’re heading to Paris this week, where we’ll be presenting a selection of books and magazines at Polycopies alongside Bluecoat Press. Look out for Daniel Meadows’ [Book of the Road]( and the [Spatial Awareness issue of BJP](. We’ll also be around the main fair at the Grand Palais Ephémère – come find us if you’d like to say hello. ‘We are a support system and we respect the artistic project’: the French museum democratising photography Based in a former mining area in northern France, Centre régional de la photographie is honouring the past to bring photography to the present. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
